Summary of positive GF eating experiences in Ireland
in June, 2002. Two London restaurants near the Marble
Arch /Edgeware Rd. area are included at the end. I
always used a restaurant card and brought my own
bread. Hope this listing will be helpful.

Dublin:
Cornucopia 19 Wicklow Street - Very easy for GF
eating. Tasty and filling GF dishes were marked. Large
servings.
Powerscourt Centre - Have lost the name but it's the
health food restaurant on the top floor. GF items
were designated by server. Very good food.
Shalimar Restaurant: 17 South Great George's Street
Dublin 2 opposite the Central Hotel. Excellent food.
Staff easily understood GF needs and made
recommendations.
Kilkenny Design Center Restaurant, Nassau St. : Staff
not especially helpful in this cafeteria style
restaurant. But some items were marked GF and I had no
reaction.
Health Food Stores: Natures Way in Stephen's Green
Shopping Center
Dunnes and Tesco Stores usually had some GF items

Dingle:
Greenmount House B&B- http://www.greenmounthouse.com/
: Wonderful breakfasts. Hosts understood GF needs.
Doyles Seafood Restaurant: Very good seafood
Lord Bakers Restaurant: Good lamb dishes.
Garveys Supervalu carried a small selection of GF
items. A healthfood store near the only laundromat in
town also carried some GF items.

Lisdoonvarna (on the Burren south of Galway)
Carrigann Hotel B&B
http://www.gateway-to-the-burren.com/ The owner is
very helpful and understands special dietary needs.
The bread she ordered for me had wheat starch, so
beware if intolerant. Otherwise, no problems with
breakfasts or dinners.Excellent lamb. This hotel
specializes in walking tours of the Burren.

Ennis
Open Sesame 35 Parnell Street Ennis: Has large
selection of GF items. Follow signs to Tourist
Information parking if driving. Unless familiar with
Ennis, it is difficult to find parking near store.

Clifden area
Erriseask House Hotel at Ballyconneely
http://www.erriseask.com/ - Worth the drive from
Clifden for excellent gourmet dinners at the
restaurant. Reservations advised. Chef cooks all food
to order. Breakfasts very good, also. Superior rooms
are recommended if you stay at this hotel. The area is
very quiet and restful but those wanting a more lively
experience might want to stay in Clifden.
Mitchell's Restaurant- Food was average -I had no
reactions on two different occasions.
The Connemara Hamper, Suppliers of Fine Foods, Eileen
& Leo Halliday Market St., Clifden, Connemara, Ireland
Tel: +353 (0)95 21054. Deli type supplies. Eileen
understands GF needs well. They will pack lunches for
walkers and bicyclists. Excellent.

Achill Island
This location is for those who want a very quiet
experience. There are no health food stores or even
grocery stores with GF items nearby. Westport is
recommended in this area for lodging with GF dining
and supplies available.
Achill Cliff House B&B http://www.achillcliff.com/ -
Never had a reaction from 4 breakfasts there.
Chalet Restaurant one meal no reaction; second meal
had a reaction
Calvey's Restaurant - had a reaction although needs
were explained.

Galway
Healthwise health food store has a good GF selection.
Evergreen health food store also has a goodGF
selection. Both stores are downtown in old Galway.
The bakeries have GF bread but it does include wheat
starch.
Thai Garden Restaurant - Staff understood GF needs and
suggested dishes.
McDonaghs - Staff understood needs and suggested
dishes.
Eastern Tandoori - Very good Indian food.
Park House Hotel B&B http://www.parkhousehotel.ie/
