Hello Listservmates! My, what an overwhelming response! Two easy things: I
now know how to spell Actenol and both Fosamax and Actenol are GF. I
received about 20 pro and an equal number against. I attempted to replay to
all who responded. I do appreciate it.
Almost everyone recommended additional calcium supplementation and lots of
weight bearing exercise. All said you must be sure to follow the directions
carefully which include staying upright and having no food for at least 1/2
hour after taking. Several people who had trouble with Fosamax switched
successfully to Actenol. Most seemed to have less trouble with the weeky
dosage of 70 mg of Fosamax as opposed to the daily dosage of 10 mg. You can
contact Fosamax at 800.280.5590 or at www.drpinkus.com. One person ordered
from them ($120 for 6 jars which lasted a long time.) Another person
tolerated it although had to take Tums quite a bit at first. Another
increased bone density 80% in one year! Another said try every other day for
2 weeks and see if there are side effects. Two persons alluded to new drugs
coming on the market soon: one an annual dose called Zometa by Novartis.  ;
the other, daily injections of a parathyroid hormone. Another logical
approach was that the diarrhea must first be under control as the
malabsorption issue is dominant.
I will continue summary on another message. Thanks again to all who
responded, Barb
