Hi Cindy,
I grew a fairly large diffuse goiter after a lifetime of hypo symptoms but
normal blood work. My endo told me that I have a genetic problem with an
enzyme that is needed in the process. I started Levoxyl (generic
Synthroid) at .075 and have done very well. The goiter reduced rapidly and
drastically. The slurring of my speech and total cognitive disintegration
improved back to normal for me. I began to lose weight, very small amount
and gradually without doing *anything*. (This is really remarkable as I've
spent my entire life overweight. I was 100 lbs at age 5. I always had to
do a lot to lose a little and gain it back so quickly.) My hair isn't
falling out as bad. All sorts of good stuff. The catch is that I have to
take the pill for the rest of my life or I'll be right back where I
started. I've got no problem with that so I didn't inquire as to what if
any alternatives there are.
