Oh boy, did I read that book! About 18 years ago. I remember it
distinctly because I was visiting my family in Tacoma, Wash. at the time
and after a particular chapter, I started a conversation with my mother.
It was about the connection between a mother and her daughter and the
daughter's children because of the imbilicle (sp?)cord connection
bringing them closer. Maybe others know what I'm talking about. After
all, it has been 18 yrs, and I never picked up the book after this
conversation with Mom. Anyway, I tried discussing it with her. Mom said
it depended on who the favorite child was...that is who's children the
grandmother would favor. She came right out and told me that she would
never love any children I had like she loves my brother's children. That
was the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak. I had been toying
with the idea of not having children. That tipped the scale for me. I
had my tubes tied very shortly after.
