>>My psychiatrist said he didn't want to reduce the Prozac (even though I'm
still feeling really fatigued all the
time) because he says "going on Thyroid medication can often make you
depressed in and of itself". I have been feeling fatigued and often more
depressed since going on the Levoxyl 3 months ago. Does anyone have
experience with anti-depressant meds and thyroid meds?<<

More like a undertreated thyroid will produce symptoms which are similar to
depression. My mother took Synthroid for 30 years. She was up to 300 mcg
with a large goiter. I suspect she was not metabolizing the medication
well. She started on Prozac and now she is taking 100 mcg of Synthroid, her
goiter is no longer visible, and she is in better health than I have ever
known her to be. A pharmacist I work with said that Prozac has some effect
on the liver which may help metabolize the Synthroid. I have taken it once
or twice with my meds but Prozac didn't seem to make a difference on
hypothyroid symptoms for me.

I would venture to say that at best Prozac can be helpful. At worst, it's
likely not harmful.

Good Luck
Meg
