I have Hashimotos and have gained a lot of weight over the last 4 years.
After much trial and error, I found something that worked for me, which was
to cut out grains and refined sugar. I tested it for one month: fresh
fruit, vegetables, legumes, chicken, lean meats, fish, some dairy, olive
oil, a little butter. Kept up with my usual exercise. I didn't count
calories (a first for me); I ate until I felt comfortable. My edema reduced
substantially and I lost 15 pounds. My sugar cravings went away in a matter
of days. At the end of 30 days I reintroduced grains. The sweet/starch
cravings came back, I puffed up (face, ankles, etc.), and the weight crept
back up. I guess my body is telling me something loud and clear.
