Both my daughter and myself have had RAI for Graves. Mine
was totally destroyed by it but hers wasn't. Dr. Derry put
her on a dose of 180 mgs.of Thyroid in order to stop her
thyroid  gland function and be able to control  how much of
the hormone was in her system. He also recommended that she
take a drop of iodine a day. I suppose the reason that he
did not suggest I take it also was the fact that my thyroid
is non-functioning. I have an appointment with him next week
and I will surely be asking him about this and how necessary
he thinks the iodine is. Also I must add that she has been
feeling great although she confessed that she hasn't been
taking the iodine as she abhors the taste even in a glass of
juice. I also would like to take this opportunity to again
thank all you list contributors for the encouragement  it
took to find a doctor that would help me get better. I am
now on 240 mgs of Thyroid and 20 mgs of Cortef daily and
although not 100%, I feel a lot better than I have in 10
years. Also have lost 8 whole pounds without trying. Hooray.
Only about 40 more to go.
