Just wanted to share my excitement, I changed jobs
last year and got new insurance, requiring a new PCP.
Even though I had had numerous "normal" thyroid tests
in the previous several months, he tested my TSH to
humor me. He was quite humble when he called me and
told me it was 8.88. I rejoiced. So he put me on .05
mg levothroid. It has helped a little.
I recently changed jobs AGAIN and got another new
insurance, which allowed me to go BACK to the PCP I
had been seeing for about 20 years. I needed a
thyroid refill so went to see him. Since I have only
been on meds 6 weeks, he said to stay on this dose
another 4 weeks and then get a test. He said he would
keep me on the same med since it's not always simple
to switch. I then asked him if he ever uses Armour
and he said he does, he has some patients who prefer
it (imagine, a doctor that listens) and they do better
on it. He then excitedly recounted an article he had
read that some patients don't convert T4 to T3. I
shared his excitement as I knew then that he would
help me. He told me of patients with normal labs who
didn't feel good and when he gave them Cytomel they
had dramatic improvement. He agreed to prescribe it
for me in 4 weeks if I'm not satisfied with how I
feel. I'm on cloud 9 . . .
