Did you boot into safe mode to remove the modem? If it was showing up twice in device manager in Windows, you may have 3 or 4 installs showing in safe mode. Isn't the message something like Q???.dll linked to missing mfc42.dll? If so, you can retrieve the mfc42.dll from your win CD, or if you don't have it, look in c:\windows\options for a copy of the installation disk. Otherwise, the modem may just be totally incompatible, and maybe only the obvious will work. How old is the modem, and when was the last time it worked on what OS?

So I did the uninstall of XP and my computer crashed. I had to use the boot disk to get it up and running and then clean install everything. Spent two days because I got it up once but it crashed again. And this message keeps coming up. I uninstalled the

>> What OS do you have? You need to boot into safe mode, go into device manager, and remove all instances of your modem. Get the latest drivers for it before you do that. On restart Windows will find it and ask for the drivers. You shouldn't have a conflict after you install it without having more than one instance of it. The mfc42.dll is on your Windows CD, and can be retrieved using system file checker in Win 98 and later.
