The USMC and most of the other services have re-written their "code of
conduct" for POWs.  The 'Nam made a few smart brass realize that it is silly
to expect your service men and women to withstand torture.  That is one
reason why I do not favor women in combat roles--not because I don't think
they can handle the job.  It's just that the quickest, most brutal way to
humiliate and scar a female POW would be through rape.  I've talked to a few
rape victims who say they would rather their attackers put a round in their
head.

Anyway, the only way the new "code of conduct" is like the old is that you
are still obliged to attempt escape.

He was taken to Manchuria and "brain washed" and went right along with them
(no John McCain stuff). They released some of them and the trekked south to
North Korea the first hut the came to, they climbed on the roof and painted
(somehow) the letters "P.O.W" and a helicopter rescued them.
