FWIM (For what it matters)

I grew up a bike ride from Glen Echo. Lived on the DC line Mass.
Ave. and Western Ave. (Glen Echo is Mass. Ave extended.) You used
to be able to take the tressle bridged Cabin John streetcar line from
Georgetown up the shore of the Potomac. In the 50's, the old fun
house was abandoned in favor of a Laff in the Dark and bumper cars
(still there). The biggest and central element gone today was the
spinning airplane tower...cable suspended planes each with one huge
rudder in front of you that you steered from the seat. The faster it
went the better you could whip that thing around. Gone now. Gone
also is the anamatronic fat laughing gypsy lady - enough to give a
kid nightmares. First rate live music shows. Today you can dance in
the big pavilion to live bands...still a great place to hang out,
still a great site to recall the days of the old amusement parks, fun
for the masses, great style. Glad as much of it did survive.

I may be waxing nostalgic, but as a kid, this was hot stuff.

Pre-Rev. Jim
