I spoke too soon. I booted the Win 98 SE machine first this morning and the network did not work as it did yesterday when I wrote the below message. The order of boot does not make a difference. When I log on to the router it shows both computers as logged in, but the event log does not show that the Win 98 machine is successfully logged in. For the Win Me machine I see an event that log in was successful, but not for the Win 98 machine. For some reason the Win 98 machine does not successfully log onto the router every time. Then without changing anything it will log on and work fine, so it isn't anything obvious like settings or cables. I am again open to suggestions.
