Well...LOL... Anthony CANNOT become president of the US one day...he's not American!

As to becoming Prime Minister of Canada... well, we have slightly more liberal attitudes in Canada. We have had a female PM, we have declared gay MPs, we had a leader of a federal opposition party who is an amputee, etc. Our current PM has partial facial paralysis as a result of a childhood illness (the opposition party actually lost an election and considerable political clout in this country when they aired a TV ad commenting on the PM's facial deformity -the Canadian people were horrified and outraged.) Canadian politics is populated throughout our history with some very unique individuals. Our PM who is the counterpart to your FDR (most re-elections, longest serving), Mackenzie-King was probably bipolar and held seances and used to get advice from his dead mother through his dog!!! I don't think the Canadian people would necessarily dismiss a capable political candidate solely on the basis of disability. :-)

All that said, I don't want to put ANY limitations on Anthony at this point. (Well, he is not likely to become a neurosurgeon or an NHL player... we ARE realistic, lol) But, why create a glass ceiling? As long as he's happy, I personally don't care if he's digging ditches. But if he wants to aim high, I would absolutely support him!

I don't want to tell you that Anthony can't be a mayor, a Governor, a
representative or even the president some day because I would love to get
more people with disabilities in those jobs. However, I would suggest not
setting your goals so high because you might be asking for a disappointment
if they don't happen in his life time. A suggestion to everybody on this
LISTSERV is, if you want to be a mayor or even on the city council, it
starts by getting your face out there volunteering at the soup kitchen,
Independent Living Center, Red Cross and so on.

Thanks,
Anthony

Yvonne, this is a wonderful attitude and plan! I hope Anthony grows up to
=
  be
a mayor of some town, or a governor! It sounds like you guys are doing so
much so right on! I'd give you a parent of the year award! mag<<<
Thanks so much, Mag! I'll just be happy if he is when he grows up. And if
=
he moves out on his own one day! LOL

  >>>Yvonne, what's a pony walker?<<<

Jenn already answered about the Pony walker. The little girl at the bottom
=
of the first page on the Pony website is in the exact model Ant uses. He =
has been using one since he was about 18 months old. At the time it was =
the only gait trainer that came small enough for the very little ones. We
=
have taken the handle bars off the front so he can get closer to tables, =
etc. We also changed the wheels - ours are larger and made of rubber (vs.
=
teflon) so he can go outside. The new ones don't have brakes (which never
=
stopped Ant anyway, lol) so he maneuvers a bit better. We also use it like
=
a standing frame at home sometimes. Ant's hip joints are in almost perfect
=
alignment and his bone density is excellent. I think the weight-bearing, =
"walking" and "standing" from an early age have certainly played a part in
=
that. There are other walkers I would have liked to try (we are on our =
second Pony) but the government will only fund certain models. At $2000 =
CDN (about $1200 US), we took the one we WOULDN'T have to pay for! :-)

  Glad you're back!

  Yvonne
