Hi Tombo,
If you are in Florida, you might what to check out
what services they have for your son through Beth, our
resident OT on this list. I would also very highly
remommend you find your son an physiatrist, which is a
doctor that specializes in movement disorders such as
CP, Spinal cord, spinia bifida, etc. They really take the
whole child into account and not bits and pieces as
many specialists do. I have a soon to be 7 year old
who has spastic quad CP as well as other disabilites
and is considered severely multiply impaired by the
school district. Saying that more to let you know not
to let labels scare you because going by Alex's dx's
and labels you would never expect to find a kid who
has been invited to sing( solo) the National Anthem at
his brothers HS hockey game as well as lead his school
assembly in it,a kid in the regular first grade doing
regular 1st grade work with modifications. Does your
son have an IEP in place for school? You need those
labels to get school services( including for the
emotional part)
Here are two other list serves that are for parents
with kids with disabilites. Our-kids is for parents of
kids with any type of disability and my favorite of
kids disability lists for information and support.
CP Parent is for kids with CP. C-Palsy isn't too much
for for kids per se but can be a wonderful peak into
the future for problems that present themselves as
adulthood is approached and reached. Mostly it's about
minds with weird sense of humors ( hey he should be
warned:)) and good old friendship and support.
