THREE ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT PEACE & WAR:

(1) PEACE WITNESS seeks people to help with vigils:

Peace Witness, an interfaith group seeking to be a prayerful presence for
peace, is calling for members of all faith communities in the Madison area
to join in peace vigils. The vigils will be held every weekday, at noon and
at 4:30 P.M. at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Doty Street.

For each vigil, a volunteer agrees to go to Grace Episcopal Church (on the
square) to pick up PEACE WITNESS identifying signs before the vigil. Peace
Witness asks that no other signs be displayed and that no slogans be chanted
or shouted. The vigils are intended to be silent and prayerful.

Peace Witness urges faith communities to announce the vigils and endorse the
vigils if possible. Members of faith communities are asked to come to any
vigil at noon or 4:30 each weekday. Individuals are encouraged to join any
vigil.

Faith groups are still needed to take responsibility for the following
vigils:
Monday at noon
Tuesday at noon
Wednesday at noon
Tuesday at 4:30 P.M.
Taking special responsibility for a vigil means that a congregation agrees
to get the signs from Grace Episcopal, hold the vigil, and then return the
signs after the vigil.

A peace planning session over a brown bag lunch is scheduled for tomorrow,
Wednesday, March 12, from noon to 1:30 P.M., at the Plymouth Congregational
Church, 2401 Atwood Avenue. All are welcome.
Contact persons are Jane Rowe (249-5096) or Tom Boswell (257-1303).

(2) PEACE DIALOGUE at CALL TO RENEWAL MEETING:
ôPromoting Conversation in the Congregation about War and Violence:
Toward Nonviolence at Home and Abroadö
Tuesday, March 18 (noon)
2300 South Park Street
Sponsored by Madison-area Urban Ministry
Bring a bag lunch to this event.
Panel included Clerk of Friends Meeting Frank Paynter,
Lutheran Rev. Mary Pharmer
Rev. Jerry Folk, recently retired Director of the WI Council of Churches.

(3) TALKING WITH CHILDREN ABOUT WAR, is a gathering designed to help
parents, teachers and caregivers talk with young children and adolescents
about their fears and concerns regarding war and terrorism. This event will
take place Saturday, March 29, 2003 from 12:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the
Harambee Family Center, 2202 South Park Street, Madison, Wisconsin. The
event is free and open to all families in the Madison area. Advanced
registration is appreciated and can be arranged by calling Family
Enhancement at (608) 241-5150. Free childcare for children 6 and under will
be available, as well as free organized activities for children ages 7-11.

This collaborative event supports families as they try to positively manage
stressful events brought about by the threat of war in these uncertain
times. The organizers stress that this event is not a forum for adults to
discuss foreign policy. ôRegardless of whether you are a war supporter or
protester, you may want to know more about how your children react to news
of war, and how you can help them feel safe. Concern for our children is
something that brings us all together.ö
