Folks: I'm writing to alert you to the fact that a major summer internship
program has been launched for minority journalism students at Northwestern
University. The Chicago Reader with the Medill School of Journalism has
organized the Academy for Alternative Journalism, running from June 19 to
August 11. Ten minority students will be chosen for the intensive "hands-on"
course of study. A stipend of $2,500 will be awarded to each of the ten
students. The filing deadline is March 15, 2000. The Reader belongs to the
Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, as does Isthmus, and the course
will have something of an "alternative" edge to it. I know the Reader
editor, Mike Lenahan, and am optimistic that this program will be topnotch.

If you know any potential candidates, please alert them to this opportunity.
