The first thing to check...
Look in the BIOS and see if the IDE channels are turned on and what they are set
to and/or think the hard drive size is.
If you have "AUTO", that is generally safe for the hard drive. (Some CD drives
like "none" better...)
This assumes you have checked and set the hard drive jumpers to the proper positions.
Which drives are you connecting to which ribbon cable or cables?
This will effect the jumper positions.
