From what I've been reading the "other" health risks are minimal given
the low dose of nicotine that is used. Remember, these are only trials.
For Parkinsons, essential tremor, among others.

Personally, were I not already a smoker and read about nicotine helping
to reduce spasticity, I'd at least try it, starting at the lowest dose
possible.

For myself, my doctors, including specialists, say there's no evidence
that I ever smoked at all. One doctor said that she considers anyone who
smokes 7 or less cigs daily not to be a smoker in the "clinical" sense.
Again, her viewpoint.

I reported these findings about spasticity reduction to my own gp years
ago and he did his own reviews and found merit in limited nicotine
consumption for the purposes indicated. When I look at the long-term
effects of Valium (addictive quality) and Dantrium (potential liver
damage), I'll stick to my few cigs a day, thank you very much :)

I think, too, one's personality is in play. I'm not a particularly
addictive personality. As far as smoking is concerned, I can go days and
days without smoking, but I'm more spastic. I did it as a test for my
own edification.

I don't have a smoker's cough, I have the lung function of an athlete,
at last testing. Perhaps my body within the parameters of a neurological
impairment, utilizes nicotine differently than one without an insult to
the brain.

Cheers!

Carla
