With my first post, I suppose an introduction is appropriate.
I'm an elder living in Western Massachusetts, a technology
journalist turned health book writer turned blog essayist. Links on
request by private email.
I consider myself a prisoner of the Medicare Plan D arrangement. The
option of not paying for the insurance is unacceptable; at my age no
one knows when/whether catastrophic illness will strike.
Also at my age, I'm supposedly taking 7 pharmaceutical drugs. Maybe
I'm unAmerican, but I only take one -- Armour Thyroid.
Which, you may know, Medicare has dropped from its formulary, giving
Plan D insurance companies permission to do the same.
I could get into a whole rant about Republicans thinking it's ok to
force the healthy to pay for the sick when Bush did it, but not when
Obama proposes to, but I won't, unless someone wants to engage.
Offlist, probably.
At last, my question: Has anyone here successfully got their Plan D
insurance company to accept a doctor's certification that only a
preparation that actually contains T3 is suitable?
If so, please tell me how you did it. What documentation did you
provide for your doctor to send the insurance company? Anything
else?
Thanks in advance,
Miryam Ehrlich Williamson
