hi edith and laurie,

i tried synthroid, switched to armour, then to levoxyl + cytomel,
with no appreciable differences. my tsh which was once 39, was now
0.5, and my individual t-levels were all in the normal or even upper
normal of the range. my blood told a fairy tale story of wellness
and good thyroid function. yet my body temperature was low, and my
joint pains were incredibly severe (they started in my feet and legs,
and soon spread everywhere, even to my fingers, making it impossible
to do anything). i also noticed that my pains and symptoms were most
severe when my temperature was at its lowest in the evenings, at
about 96.6. it would get as high as 97.1 during the afternoons.
springtime in orange county, california, was unbearably, freezing
cold to me.

anyway, about a month ago i started the wilson's protocol, which
meant going off t4 completely and just taking t3. i take 50mcg of
cytomel in the morning, and 50mcg in the evening with razor
precision, because if i'm even a few minutes late, i'll crash. and
in about 3.5 weeks, my body temp has increased. my hands are no
longer cold. i'm not shivering. i can sweat. my brain is sharper,
and my joint pains are significantly lessened. the whole 'eureka
moment' came when i caught a high fever, then noticed when it came
down, that i was in very little pain. i took my temp at that point
and noticed it was 98.6--still running a slight fever, in my case.
as the fever left, and my temp came down, my symptoms and pains
increased and worsened. it was enough evidence for me and my
osteopath that i was suffering from subclinical hypothermia as a
result of my hashimoto's disease, and that we should indeed try this
treatment, at my request. i'm also getting testosterone shots in the
interim, as my adrenals and dhea and other hormones have been lowered
as well. frankly, i can't tell you that they do much for me.

so, after years of conventional treatment that didn't do anything
significant for me, i went with my instinct, tried wilson's protocol,
and it worked. i'd recommend it to anyone and everyone with a
hypothyroid condition (mine is hashimoto's) who is still symptomatic
despite everything. i'm not all well, and i probably have months to
go before i'm tip-top, but most people who start this will probably
be starting from a better place than i did, and a lot of the
testimonials i've read indicate results sooner than 1 month.

here's a page with more material on the condition, its symptoms, and
treatment.

best,
baron
