Subject: re brain fog attributed to hypothyoidism

Dear Group: In attempting to clear my brain fog I'd been
taking what I now realize were excessive dosages of vitamin
supplements that apparently overloaded my liver with Vitamin A
resulting in toxicity that caused its own brain fog.

Maybe. The side effect was just sleepiness, that had to be an awful large
amount in order to be toxic. Also, be aware that Vitamin A (found in meat)
and beta carotene (found in carrots) are not the same. Beta carotene has to
be converted to Vitamin A, and hypos have problems doing so. Hypos are much
more likely to turn yellow when eating a lot of beta carotene.

As for magnesium, that's a metal. Most in this group learn that you should
take calcium, magnesium, iron, and other minerals at least 2 hours apart from
thyroid medicine or it blocks absorption. So, yes your hypo symptoms would
return.

Note, I'm on the Atkins diet, when I started I went on vitamins. I take only
T3, I have heard that minerals affect aborption of T4 products like
Synthroid, however, I took it 6 hours after my timed release T3 and 6 hours
before and got really tired. I believe it interferes with T3 working also
and I'm not sure if taking iron, calcium, or magnesium is ever a good idea
because of this. Other experiences may differ, I didn't notice the
difference as much on Armour and only taking vitamins 2 hours apart, so if
it's not the T3 itself then maybe it's the time release element that doesn't
work right in the presence of certain minerals. Whatever, I stopped the
multiple vitamins and immediately felt better.

Skipper
