Dear Thyroid Folks,
>What is the best time if day to take synthyroid?
Many believe that, because thyroid hormone
production in healthy people is higher during the
daytime, that taking thyroid replacement hormone
in the daytime makes sense.
I take mine in the morning. The typical human
wake-sleep cycle calls for more activity in the
daytime. Thyroid replacement hormone, especially
T3, can be looked at as "stimulating." So, taking
a stimulant in the morning (rather than before
sleep) may make more sense.
If you are taking T4 only, there is less reason for
taking it at any specific time of day, because T4
has a long half-life and only reaches a 'final' level
in the blood after several weeks (four to ten weeks)
on a new dose.
I hope this helps.
Pax,
