I got into doing thyroid Medicine because I was treating depression. If the
antidepressants don't work well, it is pretty accepted to add some T3 or T4
to "augment" their effects.

In a short time, I learned that if you got the thyroid and related hormones
right, most people didn't need antidepressants.

While I agree that Prozac is a good deal safer than what was available when I
was starting out (Elavil, Tofranil, and the rest), its safety makes it too
easy to use in the place of a well thought out diagnosis.

I have lost count (a very long time ago) of all the patients on
antidepressants who really needed better management of their thyroid problem.
With the more dangerous tricyclic antidepressants, docs would look for
everything else first. Now, too often, I see people being put on Prozac
before the more common medical problems are assesssed.

You may be depressed because the T4 was not exactly what you needed.
