My 2 cents on this is that gallstones are cholesterol crystals. The body
makes 75% of this and our dietary intake amounts to only 25% of the
total. So no matter how we cut our intake, the body will make its own
because of the need. In normal metabolism the flow of cholesterol is
from the bloodstream through the arterial lining. In hypothyroidism,
this flow is thought to reversed after the lining is remodeled (see
Barnes BO Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness). Alford RA observes
that once thyroid treatment is instituted it is still possible to
re-absorb the cholesterol build-up in the arteries. The success once
calcification has set in may be very slow but still improves the
condition of the patient.
I've seen references in the past while I was researching about
gallbladder polyps.
