Dear All,
Here's my situation. My real thyroid doc is excellent
and located at quite a distance from my home town. I'm
also obliged to maintain a relationship with my local
HMO doc. Based on my latest annual physical results my
HMO doc is concerned that my TSH is oversuppressed and
that my T3 is too high. The HMO doc wants me to
immediately cut back my current Armour dose of 3 1/2-4
grains daily to 2 grains and retest in a month. Of
course I'm not going to do this. I feel just fine,
thank you, and 2 grains would leave me close to
myxedemic coma. Most of my thyroid was removed eight
years ago and I doubt that there's any functional
tissue left, so I don't see the need to worry about
oversuppression. I haven't been able to reach my real
thyroid doc yet, and would appreciate any input you
can give me to reassure my HMO doc that well enough
should be left alone.
That said, my current thyroid status is, per
incomplete HMO testing:
T4 (I'm assuming free) 5.2 <4.0-12.0>
T3 (uptake) 51.4 <33.0-45.0>
FTI 2.7 <1.1-4.5>
TSH (ultrasensitive> .004 <0.350-5.500>
Thanks.
Kyra Kitts
