Hello to all...I came upon this group in a very round about way...it was
meant to be I suppose. I HAVE A QUESTION SO PLEASE READ ON. What follows is
the short version of my story. I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease 3 years
ago and after disastrous experiences with tapazol control was finally zapped
with radioactive iodine 6 months later. It took 6 months for my T's to drop
sufficiently to require hormone replacement and then finally was put on
synthroid (187micrograms). I was OK on this for about 5 months during which
time I moved to southern California. A new doc. entered my life and said
everything was fine at that level and told me I was a psych case because I
was depressed and gaining weight (I must have just been "eating too much").
Changed doctors after having a TOTAL BREAKDOWN in my endo's office because
she said "there is nothing more I can do for you". Doc. #2 in California
lowered my meds to 137 micrograms and added 25 micrograms of cytomel...I was
"stable" at the followup appointment two months later and so off I go with
"come back and see me again in 6 months". Shortly thereafter I start loosing
my hair again...blah blah blah...ended up having to quit my job in banking
because I couldn't remember how I calculated anything from one moment to the
next...blah blah blah...back to doctor for the 6 month checkup
and...VOILA...I have almost NO thyroid hormone in my system!

HELP! I must be insane...I'm all over the flipping place with my test
results (my results sorta look like a graph of chaos)...I'm majorly confused
...someone please tell me that I'm not the only one out there who is having
difficulty finding stability with my dosages and my T's. I'm 33 years old
and got married last year (another story altogether but I almost called it
off because I figured that I was miserable and there was no end in sight so
why bring someone else into my personal hell) . It is time for me to start
my family and I don't see any concern in the medical community on getting and
keeping me healthy enough to consider beginning this (of course this requires
that I drop the 45 pounds that I have gained in the past 18 months...most of
it over a 4 month period)! All the doctors are NASTY to me when I try to
advocate for myself and to be honest I have run the course...I'm dead tired
and have no more energy to deal with doctors. I sorta feel like my spunk has
been beaten out of me between dealing with doctors and dealing with illness.

MY QUESTION - when you feel like you have given the docs their fair chance to
deal with your health issues and you are running out of energy,
enthusiasm...and time...WHO IS THE BEST DOCTOR TO GO TO ( I will be glad to
travel to Dr. Wonderful, I just need to find someone who can deal with the
whole mess and help me make it work). I'm looking for THE SUPERMAN/WOMAN OF
ENDOCRINOLOGY AND GRAVES' DISEASE.

Thanks for the help - Miriam
