What "test" did your doctor run to cause him to lower your Synthroid? Are
you on any other medications? Why does your doctor think you are not
hypothyroid? Did he tell you how being on your original dose would kill
you? Can he offer an explanation to your symptoms? Are they coming from
something else? What does he consider the normal range of TSH to be? What
had it been? You need to find out his rationale, if any. (Is he more
concerned about oversupplementation liability therefore keeping you low with
little liability?)
The discussion with your doctor must get back to you, not only the tests.
If he insists on talking tests, then you can talk tests too: If TSH alone
was done and the results were such to cause the physician to lower your
dose, then the full thyroid panel should have been done before making a
dosage change. You should have free T4 and free T3 at least. TSH is a
screening tool only, to be followed by diagnostic tests if it is abnormal.
This is clearly stated in the family practice notebook algorithm.
