Unithroid is L-thyroxine or T4, a form of thyroid hormone. Carbimazole
is the generic name of Neo-Mercazole and is a pro-drug of Methimazole
(Tapazole). This is an anti-thyroid drug that acts by inhibiting the
uptake of iodine in the synthesis of thyroid hormone. Carbimazole turns
to methimazole immediately upon ingestion, so basically for all intents
it is similar to methimazole.
If you feel fatigued, brain fogged, etc. while under carbimazole you
could be showing signs of hypothyroid condition and needs to adjust your
dosage. If you flu-like symptoms and susceptibility to infections like
sore throat or peri-anal rashes, it is best to consult your doctor since
these could be signs of depressed white blood count.
Hope this helps
Greg
