To Skipper and Ballew,

Whose dogged pursuit of thyroid knowlege and decent
medical attention for all of us with thyroid disease, we
must salute your efforts. I'm sure other members of the list
also realize that this madness will spread to other
countries as well. This year, after finally finding the
answer to my ever rapidly decreasing state of health after
searching for most of twenty years, I could not forsee
that this adequate medicating would be taken away from me.
As I'm sure some of you cannot forsee. I am not assured of
continueing prescriptions as I am still looking for a
doctor who will prescribe my dose which is 435 mg of
Dessicated thyroid. I cannot live with feeling like a
criminal by hiding the dose I am on. I expect more doctors
will turn my daughter and I away even though she is only on
180 mg. as her TSHwas normal. Her thyroid gland was only
damaged by the RAI and doesn't produce sufficient all the
time, where mine is toally destroyed. As there is much
evidence that the side effects, osteoporosis, and heart
problems, that the college and doctors are warning us about,
is not a significant deterrant to dessicated or sufficient
medication, where are their warnings coming from? As I was
once a recipient of some of the perks of the pharmacuetical
companies when encouraging the doctors to prescribe their
new and expensive drugs, I am sure money and greed are at
least two of them if not all. As thyroid in all forms is as
cheap as it gets , if they can also slip us some of the
drugs thatmay or may not, usually not, control the side
effects of not enough thyroid as well, it is billions more
dollars to those drug companies. As they are multinational
and we are talking billions, their control is considerable.
There are not enough Dr. Betty Dongs out there to look out
for the public's interest. You can bet eventually the U.S.
will come under the axe as well. I pray if we all fight
together we can win this fight for our good health.

Drug companies in Canada have already taken the natural
forms of insulin off the pharmacy shelves and many diabetic
patients who do not do well on synthetic have to get it from
out of the country. Where will it end?

Our College of Physicians and Surgeons has informed its
membership (all practising medical doctors in the province
of B.C.) that they have raised their fees in order that the
college can become more "politically active."(The membership
doesn't get a vote . It is mandatory) Will this mean that
we give up ALL our rights to the College of Physicians and
Surgeons, not only our health? This is like a horror movie.

Phyllis
