Licorice root supports the adrenals.  It contains a precursor to cortisol.
That is one reason one might think that it raises  blood pressure.

If the adrenals are really low, the blood pressure will crash.  I have low
adrenals and that has happened to me many times.  My blood pressure has
dropped from its normal 120/70 to 80/50.  Needless to say, I feel faint and
weak when this happens.

Licorice root is an old remedy for bronchitis and other upper respiratory
diseases which respond positively to adrenal support.
