Doctors are very accustomed to the ease of reading the lab results, with
the TSH in a certain range. When a patient is on Armour, which has T3 and
T4 in it, the TSH isn't a true range of where the patient stands on a
certain dose, compared to a medication that only contains T4. My doctor
pointed out to me that the TSH is skewed on a combination medication like
Armour or one that contains T3. The TSH reads lower. Thus, the doctor must
check the free T3 and free T4 to get a true picture of a patient's
treatment.

Simply put, many doctors take the easy way, without considering whether the
patient may feel better on a combination of T3 and T4. It isn't just
Armour, doctor's don't want to prescribe T3 because of having to monitor
the TSH and other levels. Personally, I would try a combination to see if
one felt better. There is no risk, except that if a patient feels better,
it is up to the patient and not the doctor.

"risks" of Armour that are scaring Dr's?
