Not much info in that article, but we know that the nomadic peoples
are now in pretty bad conditions, most of their best grasing lands are
taken away, so the cattle are not being fed properly. The current
conditions do not tell us much about how things were in the past. All
people at a low technological level have high child mortality,
regardless of diet. The Masai might even benefit at this point from
more carbohydrates, just because they are hungry. Certainly a few
veggies might help.
