surgery. no way in hell they'd buy something that cost any significant

Well, I see your point, but I honestly don't think the IBOT would render the
ADA useless.  There are far too many kinds of barriers to make it obsolete
just because the IBOT can clamber over curbs and stairs.  Also, remember
that it's quite expensive, and not many private insurance companies and
HMO's would pay for such an costly piece of equipment if other alternatives
are availiable.
