Seems that I have read several times that celery is naturally high in
sodium. Corn (no, no, no, no, I don't do it no more), is also somewhat
high, I think.
I've really come to savor the complex flavors of veggies sans salt, but
still prefer most meats (other than fish/seafood) liberally seasoned.
My personal opinion is that inland salt licks were popular gathering spots
for animals of all kinds, even prior to agriculture. We have taste
receptors for some reason. Years ago I read mention in a history book of a
couple of natural salt licks (one in KY, the other in MO) to which native
fauna and early pioneer hunters (and salt gatherers) were drawn.
