WATER can erode granite, given enough time, and it's softer than fishing
line (just ask a fish). 

Personally, I think most of those gadgets were invented by guys who get off
on using power tools whether or not they are an improvement over non-power
tools. The ultimate one is the leaf blower. I whack weeds with a 'whip'
(blade on a long handle) and get just as good (or better) results. But
then, I still often use a hand 'eggbeater' drill in my workshop or around
the house, when a power drill is not necessary.
