Derek,
Even though I love masons and am inspired daily by their tales of evolving
mineralogy, it is nice to see something woody here for a change, something
not a tombstone or falling rock.
Is your project in the Northwest? I have a timber framer associate here in
the
Okanagan region of BC near the border of the Hew Hess Hay with two acres
of stacked and sorted timbers salvaged a few years ago from demolition of
some old Vancouver warehouses. Big pieces, long pieces, dried and
century-seasoned Douglas Fir. He also has a sawmill on site for custom
resizing, and a most appropriate name - Rick Grandbois (Rick Big-wood). My
trusty broad axe and I
hand-hew timbers for the Grist Mill historic site restoration,
starting with rough sawn timbers when necessary to get create an effect (we
make movie sets too!). We and he and timber are all willing to travel if
the price is right. Our members are probably long enough.
cp - spending time each day straightening recyclable square cut nails for a
water wheel - in bc.
PS: I would like to see a picture of Ralph.
