I don't know if any of you have thought about these things, but they are
getting amazingly cheap. I've been kicking the idea around. My wife
isn't a ham, not likely to ever be, well not in this life anyway...
Sometimes she'll stay in and play and I go out to the car to listen to the
game or whatever and I thought how cool these would be so I could call her
or she could call me to see if I was ready to come in and play or
whatever. Anyhow, I won one at the ham club meeting last Tuesday. I
really gave them hell about only giving away one radio, like claping one
hand The one I won was a kenwood with its own little speaker and also
comes with a set of headphones. Why headphones. Well the little thing,
and it is very small also has builtin fm stereo radio. It is a little bit
of a pain for a blind person to run, but not all that bad once you get the
hang of it. I'll let you know more about range and so forth when I get
another one. I called a e s here in Vegas and they said they're $19.95.
The thing has 14 channels and 28 different subtones, what they call talk
groups. Just thought you all might be interested.
