most commercially bought chicken has a water "solution" (Often soy) added to it along with who knows what other additives.  If that causes a respiratory reaction, I would suspect that the quantity eaten would correlate with the quantity of coughing.

Or if we're talking about something you've noticed a few times (as opposed to dozens of times), maybe it's just coincidence.
