Hi,

Does anyone know if "rendered" fat was used in any way prior to the
development of copper or cast iron cookware? I know that primitive peoples
could boil water in clay or skin containers by dropping hot stones from the
fire into the water, but this method might not work for suet.

If they were not able to render the fat, then pemmican might be a rather
recently developed food.
