Thank you all for your helpful suggestions.
The predominant freeze dry food suggestion was AlpineAire Foods,
whose new web address is <www.aa-foods.com>. The food is a bit
up-scale from standard camping fare (e.g., Chicken Gumbo, Bandito
Scrambled Eggs, Mexican Rice with cheese, etc), and as such they are
a bit pricey. We did order some & my son is testing it this week along
with canned tuna, chicken & deviled ham, crackers, single serving
packaged bread from Energ-G foods, Carnation dried milk and cereal.
Suggestions included:
- Freeze dry meals from AlpineAire Foods,
- Freeze dry stuff from Glutten Free Pantry,
- Energy bars (Omega 3, Gen-Soy, etc),
- peanut butter,
- canned tuna & chicken,
- Corned beef (Broadcast & Mary's Kitchen),
- Spam,
- Hickory Farm beef stick (or make your own dried beef --
season lean thinly sliced beef with salt & paper and dry in an
open oven overnight at 160 degrees),
- soup from Taste Adventure (sold are Whole Foods & other healt
stores),
- Tamarind Tree dinners (I think these are frozen dinners, may not keep
long),
- packets of Liptons Cream of Chicken soup,
- make your own trail max,
- [log in to unmask] (I think these are military like MREs),
- Other "just-add-hot-water" foods (e.g., Nile Spice soups, Fantastic
Foods rice & beans, Thai Kitchen rice noodle bowl from Trader
Joes).
