I have an AMD Athlon at 1500MHz and that same hardware (except I have an old
17"CTX monitor that I bought at a garage sale for $20 and replaced a diode
so it would power up, and I upgraded to 512Meg of RAM since you can buy RAM
chips pretty cheaply right now). I also put a new video card. I built
mine, and paid more than that.
All systems go out of date, but for what you plan on using it for, I think
your find that it is adequate, and probably will be adequate a few years.
I would buy it.

Subject: Is This System a Good Buy?
I have always had Intel systems but now have the chance to buy an AMD Athlon
xp1500+ which includes 128 SDRAM, 40 gig drive, 24x10x40 CD-RW, integrated
3D graphics, 10/100 Lan/56k V90 modem, keybd, mouse, 17" Daytek monitor and
Windows XP for
Candian $900 or approximately
US $565.
The system will be used for web browsing, e-mail and some small office
applications ie: Word, Quicken etc. I am not a gamer.
Is this system going out of date?
Is this an adequate system?
Is the price a good one?
Any and all experiences with such a system would be appreciated.
Marilyn
