My first question would have to be, did you buy a 'crossover' cable to connect your 2
computers? You will need one of these to connect 2 PCs without an intervening hub.
A crossover cable is a special cable with the wires on one connector reversed...
You can take the cable you have to any computer or electronics store, where they do
repairs, and they will usually change the wiring to the connector on the end of the
cable for you, either for free or for a small fee.
Hoping this helps,

Subject: [PCBUILD] Networking "a network cable is unplugged"

I'm trying to connect our 2 computers, both using windows XP
One has a built in Ethernet, I installed a D-link card in the other one
and connected them with 50' of category 5e cable. They both say
"a network cable is unplugged" This is my first attempt at this, and
I don't know anything about it, but I checked the cable with a ohm meter
and there is continuity through all the wires. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Is there a good tutorial out there somewhere?
