There are any number of people, men and women, on the
alt.support.diet.low-carb newsgroup who have lost 100+ pounds or are
in the process of doing so and are succeeding. There are some people
who do have metabolic problems that make weight loss very difficult
but they are the exceptions, not the rule. Obviously they aren't all
eating paleo low-carb but many people do try to stick with real food.
I agree with Craig's suggestion that you should approach talking to
your co-worker with caution. He undoubtedly is acutely aware of his
weight, has been counselled about it many times by well-meaning
friends and family, and may well give you a less-than-enthusiastic
response.
