There could be a number of reasons why, including proper infant
nutrition, when fat cells are being formed; or the absence of
continuously available food of all sorts; or different fatty acid
composition of paleo fats; different activity patterns; or things

That may be true. But I think it is important to recognize that
paleo diet may not cure everything it might have prevented -- and
there's no reason to think it should. Large scale fat loss is as
unnatural as obesity is in the first place. Those of us who are
trying to lose 50 or 100 pounds are doing something that paleo
people probably never wanted to do, or had to do. It should not
be surprising that to do it we may have to depart from their
dietary patterns in one way or another.
