For much of my adult life, I have had borderline high bp. For the past
several months< I have been following the Faigin program (close to paleo or
completely paleo depending upon your interp and application) and have
measured very favorable, normalized bp's. The program is low carb (less
than 60 grams per day for cycles of three and then four days with an evening
of carb loading twice a week. I have lost weight, maintained energy, lost
now muscle mass and have no intrusive carb cravings in between. Again, the
point is that I have no explanation for the bp profile improvement but for
low carb, ie (actually) insulin control.

Yes, I know carbs are strongly implicated in high blood pressure. That is
why he is going on this diet with me. He's an athlete with very low body
fat, so you wouldn't think he'd have high blood pressure. But he was a
vegetarian for 30 years, and ate a diet almost entirely composed of
carbohydrates--lots of grains and beans.

Still, I don't think salt helps the situation. We'll see how he does.
