Back in the early '80s I had a Hamarlund HQ 145.  It was my first
communications receiver.  I remember it had a lot of dials and made
some squawking noises.  I didn't know how to fix it and I sold it when
I upgraded to a sony ICF-6700W.  Now I have a Kenwood R5000.  I sure
