Barley being used as a source of B vitamin enrichment in processed foods? I
recently ran into my gluten friend in Mountain High’s new Breakfast Style
yogurts. The only thing I could see that was possibly adding gluten to the
yogurt was the vitamin enrichment. The Breakfast Style yogurts have about
25% of a day’s supply of B vitamins in them. But it doesn’t say what the
source of the vitamins is from only that the yogurt is rich in B vitamins. I
know manufacturers will use barley enzymes as a source of Bs. I cut out the
Breakfast Style yogurt and I go back to normal. Their original style yogurt
is fine I have no problems with it. Just the new vitamin enriched Breakfast
Style stuff was causing me problems. Barley and gluten are not listed on the
ingredients. This is just out-loud speculation on my part. The amount of
gluten is small in the yogurt. I have to eat it for a few days before it
starts to screw me up.
