Bill, I've used direct cable connection between W95 and ME and W95 to W95.
Where I've had trouble it was due to the cable I was using between parallel
ports.  Make sure the cable you're using is designed for DCC.  Try radio
shack.  Also, if I remember correctly you have to have the network
neighborhood icon on your desk top.  Do a search on google; there are some
good instructions on how to make this work out there.
