However, I assume that most "real" mayonnaise in Ireland is made to the same
recipe (and usually in the same factory - be it here or there) as that in
the UK, in which case, I have yet to find one that *does* contain dairy
products!

It makes a great alternative to non-dairy margarine (which I find fairly
foul) on sandwiches - in fact its what I grew up doing in New Zealand, where
non-dairy margarine could only be obtained (back then) on prescription from
the hospital pharmacy!

Things pretending to be mayo and even "light" varieties I would be more wary
of - a real mayo is eggs and oil (plus a few other ingredients) - to make it
fat reduced they cut down on the eggs and the oil and that can be where
dairy can sneak in!
