Because I'm called out of town suddenly for a family funeral, I don't
have time to post the kind of summary I'd like to on this subject. An
overly long colon is called a "redundant colon" because it's longer than
is necessary so it tends to loop around & kink easily. I recieved over a
dozen replies from list members who have been told similar things about
their colons. One person was told they had a mass in their gut only to
later find it was a redundant colon. Several reported that they or their
spouse had additional loops of intestines, one had parts of their bowel
adhered to the abdominal wall & wondered if it was related to an
accident. A couple respondants said that they had "kinks" surgically
repaired. Some with redundant colons reported multiple food allergies,
others not. Some doctors don't consider it a major health concern, but
others consider it a major contributor to poor digestive health. I found
a website about colonic hydrotherapy that is supposed to help repair some
of the damage that is caused by this phenomenon.

What I haven't found out is whether a redundant colon is more common
among those with GI disease or not. That would be an interesting thread
to pursue. If I learn anything about this, I'll share.
